Superintendent Update - 4.1.22

Dear Red Jacket Families:

Today, our school experienced a very serious situation. Red Jacket’s safety procedures, the brave actions of staff, and the response from law enforcement ensured the safety of our entire school community.

Thank you to our families for your patience and allowing us to work through our emergency response procedures, while entrusting us to keep your children safe. Thank you to our students for following the direction of staff and remaining calm. And, thank you to all of our staff and the Red Jacket Education Center staff for your quick actions, compassion and the comfort you provided our students today.

Mental Health is a serious issue that we recognize many are struggling with on a daily basis. Our school community strives to meet the needs of all our students, while maintaining a safe instructional environment. It is important that our school community continues to support these conversations. Please talk to your child about the seriousness of this issue and the importance of accessing the mental health services available. If your child would benefit from mental health support, please reach out to your child’s school counselor for assistance.

As the well-being of our school community is always our top priority, we will be opening the District to staff and students for Trauma, Illness and Grief (TIG) support tomorrow. Additional information regarding support will be shared directly with families and staff.

In moments like this, it is reassuring to know that there is such support, empathy and understanding throughout our community. We should all be proud to be part of this great Red Jacket family.

With Red Jacket PRIDE & Gratitude,
Charlene Dehn
